Everyone loves Dolly Parton! I was lucky enough to take part in the amazing Dolly-themed portfolio project organized by Smokey Road Press, and oh my goodness, the portfolio has been traveling non-stop since March. It has traveled to the Pioneer House in Knoxville (TN), Smokey Road Press and Hotel Indigo in Athens (GA), Asheville Book Works in Asheville (NC), and it is currently shown at 3 different locations (University of North Georgia, Oconee Campus Gallery, GA; Webb Gallery in Waxahuchie, TX; and Lawrence Arts Center in Lawrence, KS). My Dolly print made an appearance in the Asheville-based paper Mountain Express in conjunction with the show at Asheville Book Works. The article can be found here.

I will be a part of a panel event entitled “Style Wars: California Cool” on Tuesday, June 02, 7 pm, at SFAQ Project Space in SF. There will be 6 speakers (Claire Dangle, Sampan Aranke, Ella Diaz, Genine Lentin, Nick Mitchell, and myself) presenting our thoughts and observations on what makes California cool, and the presentations will be followed by a Q&A session/panel conversation moderated by Nicole Archer. I hope to see you there! Please see the SFAQ’s information page or Facebook link for more information.

MEMECULT is an Italian online art and culture magazine, and I was featured recently in their “In the Fridge of…..” segment. If you want to know what I keep in my refrigerator, check out here.

The Dolly-themed print portfolio, “Tease It to Jesus”, was featured in Huffington Post as well as in Garden & Gun, a magazine I never knew existed. Thanks, Margot Ecke, for organizing this amazing portfolio project! You can see some of the works in the portfolio on the website of Smokey Road Press, a letterpress studio owned by Margot.

March 03, 2015

It’s been almost a whole year since I last updated this site. The year 2014 was a whirlwind of change and transition, and I feel that my whole world has turned upside down. For one thing, I left NYC and moved to California to assume a position as an assistant professor in the printmaking area at San Francisco Art Institute. Re-acquainting with the ways of life in the West Coast has turned out to be a bit more challenging than I had expected, and the transition from the life of a full-time artist/freelancer to that of a college professor has been simply insane. I truly LOVE working with my students and colleagues at SFAI, and teaching is one of the most satisfying and rewarding creative endeavors I’ve eve engaged in, but on the same note, I am struggling to get used to the new city, new life style, new schedule, new career, new people,  new obligations, new everything.

In the midst of all that, I managed to finish a new batch of prints that will be included in a traveling group exhibition entitled “Tease it to Jesus”, organized by Smokey Road Press. It’s a Dolly Parton themed print exhibition, and I am thrilled to take part in it (I mean, it’s Dolly!!). The first of the exhibition series will take place at the Pioneer House of Letterpress in Knoxville, TN, and it will travel to Athens, GA, for another exhibition at Smoke Road Press.

As a long-time fan of Book By Its Cover , I am so honored that my pie zine got featured on this amazing blog!  I am in the process of setting up an online “bookstore” for my printed goodies, and the pie zine will be available (hopefully) soon.  Please stay tuned!

I can’t believe it’s already April!  I’ve been working non-stop since the beginning of the year, and admittedly I have neglected this website.  More updates to come , but for now, here is the pic of my latest letterpress goodies produced for the Southern Graphics Council‘s annual conference in SF.  The SGC conference was a blast!  I had so much fun catching up with old friends and making new friends.  Looking forward to seeing everyone again next year.

I am so happy that I am doing this exhibition with a very good friend of mine Edward del Rosario. The opening reception for our show “It’s All Fun and Games” is coming up this Thursday, November 21st, 6:30 pm, at the Flat – Massimo Carasi in Milan, Italy.  The show will be up until mid-January.  If you’re in Italy during this winter holiday season, please be sure to stop by!

I am once again having a blast at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, teaching silkscreen courses.  I hosted a Pancake Wednesday event last week, making pancakes in the screen studio and screenprinting chocolate syrup on the pancakes.  That was so much fun!

I provided illustrations for Jesse Harris‘ new album Borne Away, which will be released on June 25th.  The album is available on vinyl, CD, digital, or as a signed-and numbered special Japanese limited edition (it comes with a hard-cover book, featuring my illustrations, all the song lyrics, and liner notes by Nicholas Weber).  I got a sneak peek of the album, and it is truly awesome!  You can pre-order here.

My Space Invaders t-shirts released by Limoland last year were reprinted recently, and they’re now available at Barneys New York as a part of their limited edition artist t-shirt collection.  Harper’s Bazaar wrote a short blurb about the t-shirts.  Check it out.

I did an illustration work for amazing musician Jesse Harris, and this one is a poster/flyer for his tour in Japan.  His new album will be coming out very soon – I’ll keep you posted on the release date.

I am quite happy to be a part of the upcoming Spring Intensive workshop at the Center for Book Arts.  It is a 9-day workshop that will cover pretty  much everything you need to know about making small editions of graphic arts/artist books, including binding, linoleum cut prints, and polymer plate letterpress.  I’ll be presenting my work and doing fun drawing projects on Saturday May 4th.  You can find more information about the workshop here: http://www.centerforbookarts.org/springintensive/

I had an amazing year as one of the artists-in-residence at the Center for Book Arts in NYC, and sadly my residency term will be officially over very soon. We’re exhibiting our works created during the residency at a group exhibition that will open this coming Friday, April 19th, 6-8 pm.  The Center is located at 28 West 27th Street (btw Broadway and 6th Ave), 3rd floor.  I hope to see you there!

And a big shout-out to my fellow artists Sarada Rauch, Stephanie Beck, Jessica Lagunas, and Frances Gallardo, who made this whole residency experience so special and inspiring!

The Center for Book Arts will be hosting its annual auction and benefit event on Friday, April 5th, 6 pm – 9 pm.  The event will honor Mary Austin (founder of the San Francisco Center for the Book), Steve Miller (book artist and educator at University of Alabama), Barbara Moore (scholar of artist’ books and performance art), and Claire Van Vliet (printmaker/bookmaker), and the proceeds from the event will be used to support the programs at the Center for Book Arts.

As a part of this event, there will be a silent auction of works by artists affiliated with the Center (including myself), and this is a great opportunity to acquire artist books, works on paper, and other works at a reasonable price.  Please see the listing of available works here.  My work is featured in the Center’s blog as well.  Please join us for the event and support art!

January 24, 2013

I will be hanging out and printing small cards from noon to 1 pm at the Center for Book Arts in NYC as a part of their winter open studio event on Saturday January 26th.  There will be demos and presentations by different artists during the event (noon to 3 pm), and it will be a lot of fun!  Please come by to say hello. If I can get the cards done on time, I’ll be giving them away as well!

Happy 2013!  I hope you’ll have an amazing year full of fun, love, and creativity.

I had such an amazing year last year, falling in love with letterpress and artist books, discovering the joy of embroidery and cookie icing, meeting amazing artists and working on collaborative projects, etc.  I have a long list of projects I’d like to tackle this year – please stay tuned, and I’ll keep you updated on my new adventures!

November 14, 2012

I am currently working on a collaborative project with 11 amazing artists to design and print (via letterpress) illustrated trading cards.  I am trying to raise funds for the project by selling some of my printed goodies, and I would love it if you can support!  More information on the project can be found here:  www.worldwidebunnycards.com. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Happily working on a book project in Belgium.  I am trying to limit my chocolate consumption while I am here, but my will power seems to simply evaporate in the presence of great chocolate bars…….
